UK - West Firsby Oilfield

Map showing West Firsby Oilfield

The West Firsby Oilfield is a producing oilfield located north of Lincoln in the East Midlands Petroleum Province. Europa purchased West Firsby in May 2003 and in January 2004, drilled a successful horizontal stepout well on the field after which production increased by 50%. The field currently shows only a very gradual decline.

Engineering studies have been confirmed by pilot production that improvements in the jet pump systems can deliver up to 50% more oil from West firsby and these improvements are expected to be implemented in late 2009.  In addition, Merlin energy have been retained to re-interpret the recently reprocessed seismic database and identify a location for a new production well, which would be a re-drill of WF-8.

A fire at the site in June 2009 led to temporary shutdown of production, which resumed in July.  This has led to a re-structuring of the production enhancement programme, which is now back on track to deliver production improvements by the end of 2009.

The oil production is transported to the ConocoPhillips Immingham Refinery and sold at a small discount to Brent.
