Romania has several petroleum provinces, the most important of which is the Carpathian Oil & Gas Province, which has produced to date 5 billion barrels of oil and 2 trillion cubic feet of gas.

The country has a considerable hydrocarbon infrastructure with existing oil and gas export routes to western Europe.
