Romania - EIII-4 Bacau Block
Romania - EIII-4 Bacau Block

Exploration effort in this block has concentrated to date in the
northeastern corner, close to the 600bcf Roman Gasfield.
Prospectivity in this part of the block is for stratigraphic traps
in Sarmatian gas sands and possible Badenian structural
traps. The disappointing 2009 Lilieci well, which Europa
farmed out of, has downgraded this play and work is now focused on
the underexplored oil play on the licence.
Europa and the operator Aurelian withdrew from the southern part
of the block on grounds of poor prospectivity and in order to
concentrate on the potential of the western and northern parts of
the licence. In 2010, new 2D seismic data were acquired,
primiraly to evaluate the western part of the block, situated in
the thrustbelt oil play. It is hoped that these data will
lead to a drilling proposal for 2011/12.
